கண்ணதாசனின் ஆளுமை என் பாதையாக, வாலியின் இளமை எனக்கு தெம்பாக எனது கலைப்பயணம் தொடர்கிறது: கவிஞர் கருணாகரன் பெருமிதம்

‘வல்லவன்’ திரைப்படத்தின் மூலம் தனது திரையுலக பயணத்தை தொடங்கிய கவிஞர் கருணாகரன் பல்வேறு தடைகளை தாண்டி இன்று பல படங்களுக்கு பாடல்களை எழுதி வருகிறார்.

சமீபத்தில் வெளியான ‘நிர்வாகம் பொறுப்பல்ல’ மற்றும் ‘கிணறு’ உள்ளிட்ட திரைப்படங்களில் இவர் எழுதிய பாடல்கள் பாராட்டுகளை பெற்ற நிலையில் தற்போது விஷால் நடிக்கும் ‘மகுடம்’ மற்றும் ‘லைப் டுடே’ உள்ளிட்ட திரைப்படங்களுக்கும் முன்னணி இசையமைப்பாளர்கள் யுவன் ஷங்கர் ராஜா, அனிருத் மற்றும் ஜி வி பிரகாஷ் இசையமைக்கும் படங்களுக்கும் இவர் பாடல்களை எழுதி வருகிறார்.

தனது பயணத்தை பற்றி பேசிய கவிஞர் கருணாகரன், “எனது கலை உலக பயணம் போராட்டம் நிறைந்தது. மாற்றுத்திறனாளி இவர் என்ன எழுதுவார் என்று பல பேரின் கண்கள் என்னை நோக்கி கேள்வி எழுப்பிடும். அவர்களின் வார்த்தை மழுப்பலான பதில்களை கொடுக்கும். இவற்றைத் தாண்டி என் மீது பலர் வைத்த நம்பிக்கையும் நான் என் மீது கொண்ட தன்னம்பிக்கையும் எனக்கு இந்த இடத்தை உருவாக்கி கொடுத்துள்ளது. இறைவனையும் கண்ணதாசனையும் வழிகாட்டிகளாக கொண்டு எனது முயற்சி, தேடல், திறமை மூலம் திரைத்துறைக்கு வந்தவன் நான். கவிஞர் வாலி எனக்கு மிகப்பெரும் உந்து சக்தி. என்னை நேசிக்கும் இயக்குநர்கள்,  இசையமைப்பாளர்கள், நடிகர்கள், தயாரிப்பாளர்கள் ஆகியோருக்கு நான் நன்றி கடன் பட்டுள்ளேன்.

விஷால் இயக்கி நடிக்கும் ‘மகுடம்’ படத்தில் பாடல் எழுதிய வருகிறேன். அவரது விஷால் பிலிம் ஃபேக்டரி நிறுவனத்தில் நானும் ஒரு ஆஸ்தான பாடலாசிரியர் என்ற இடத்தை எனக்கு கொடுத்த விஷால் சார் அவர்களுக்கு எனது நன்றிகள். இயக்குநரின் பாடல் ஆசிரியராக, இசையமைப்பாளரின் பாடல் ஆசிரியராக, தயாரிப்பாளரின் பாடல் ஆசிரியராக, நடிகரின் பாடல் ஆசிரியராக, மக்கள் ரசிக்கும் பாடல் ஆசிரியராக. ஐந்து முகம் கொண்ட ருத்ராட்சமாக இருந்தால் மட்டுமே இங்கு தடம் பதிக்க முடியும். இவற்றை நான் முழுமையாக பூர்த்தி செய்வேன் என்ற நம்பிக்கை எனக்கு இருக்கிறது,” என்றார்.

அவரது சமீபத்திய பாடல்கள் குறித்து பேசிய கவிஞர் கருணாகரன், “இந்த ஆண்டு வெளியான ‘பீனிக்ஸ்’ படத்தில் ஒரு அருமையான பாடலை இசையமைப்பாளர் சாம் சி எஸ் கொடுத்தார். விஜய் சேதுபதிக்கு ‘மாமனிதன்’ திரைப்படத்தில் எழுதியதும் அவரது மகன் சூர்யா சேதுபதிக்கு ‘பீனிக்ஸ்’  திரைப்படத்தில் எழுதியதும் மறக்க முடியாத அனுபவம்.

இமான் இசையில் ‘சென்னை சிட்டி கேங்க்ஸ்டர்ஸ்’ படத்தில் ஒரு காதல் பாடல் எழுதினேன். ‘நிர்வாகம் பொறுப்பல்ல’ படத்தில் ஸ்ரீகாந்த் தேவா இசையில் நான் எழுதிய பாடலை தேனிசைத் தென்றல் தேவா மற்றும் நடிகர் ஜெய் பாடியது மிக்க மகிழ்ச்சி. மேலும், ஒரு மலையாள படத்தில் இடம்பெறும் தமிழ் பாடலை நான் எழுதியிருக்கிறேன். தெலுங்கு, கன்னடம், மலையாளம் மற்றும் ஹிந்தி மொழிகளில் தயாரிக்கப்படும் படங்களுக்கு தமிழில் பாடல் மற்றும் வசனம் எழுதி வருகிறேன் என் தமிழாலும் இறைவன் கருணையாலும் திரை உலகைச் சார்ந்த படைப்பாளிகளின் ஆதரவினாலும் ரசிகர்களின் விருப்பத்தாலும் எனது பாதையின் பயணத்தில் வெற்றியின் முகத்தினை காண்கிறேன்.

அதற்கு இந்த பிரபஞ்சத்திற்கு எனது நன்றிகளை கூறுகிறேன்,” என்று தெரிவித்தார்.

Having begun his cinematic journey with the film ‘Vallavan’, lyricist Karunakaran has overcome numerous hurdles to become a poet whose songs now feature in several films.

Following the appreciation received for his recent works in films such as ‘Nirvagam Poruppalla’ and ‘Kinaru’, he is currently penning lyrics for ‘Magudam’ starring Vishal, as well as ‘Life Today’ and other movies. He is also writing for leading composers including Yuvan Shankar Raja, Anirudh, and G.V. Prakash.

Speaking about his journey, Karunakaran said: “My journey in the world of cinema has been filled with struggle. Many looked at me—because I am differently abled—and wondered what I could possibly write. Their words often carried a tone of dismissal. Yet, overcoming all that, the faith many placed in me and the confidence I held in myself brought me to where I am today.

With God and Kannadasan as my guiding lights, and with my own efforts, passion, and talent, I entered the film industry. Lyricist Vaali has been a tremendous source of inspiration. I am indebted to the directors, composers, actors, and producers who have supported and loved my work.

I am writing a song for ‘Magudam’, directed by and starring Vishal. My heartfelt thanks to Vishal sir for giving me the place of an in-house lyricist in his Vishal Film Factory banner. To succeed in this industry, one must be the lyricist a director wants, a composer wants, a producer wants, an actor wants, and one whom the audience loves— like a five-faced Rudraksha. I believe I can fully live up to that expectation.”

Speaking about his recent works, Karunakaran added: “In this year’s film ‘Phoenix’, composer Sam C.S. gave me a wonderful song to write. Writing for Vijay Sethupathi in ‘Maamanithan’ and later writing for his son Surya Sethupathi in ‘Phoenix’ are experiences I will never forget.

I wrote a love song for ‘Chennai City Gangsters’ in D. Imman’s music. In ‘Nirvagam Poruppalla’, the songs I wrote to the music of Srikanth Deva were sung by Thenisai Thendral Deva and actor Jai, which made me very happy. I have also written a Tamil song for a Malayalam film. I continue to write Tamil lyrics and dialogues for films being made in Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, and Hindi.

Through my Tamil skills, God’s grace, the support of film personalities, and the love of audiences, I have started tasting success along my path. For that, I express my gratitude to this universe.”
